Et tu Torres ?

It was the summer of 2007. A young lad from Spain playing for Athletico Madrid was pictured with the words "You'll Never Walk Alone" underneath his captain's armband. It, combined with a couple of other instances were hyperboled in the media and sometime later, that guy signed for LFC. The red half of Liverpool rejoiced.

He scored goals and they wrote a song for him. They sang that song whenever he scored. They sang that song even if he dint. This IS the guy, they thought. This is the guy who will take us the summit. This is the guy who will always be with us. This is the guy who will never leave us unless we want him to. Who will never make us walk alone. Who will never walk out on us.

Three years down the lane, the unthinkable happened. He left them. Exactly when the things were looking up for the club after 18 months of mediocrity. In a time of revival. When the supporters needed someone to put their hopes on. When he leaving, was the last thing on their minds. And that too, in the most excruciating manner.

There may be a million reasons why Torres has had to leave Liverpool. And I, will agree to most of them. But some of them are beyond comprehension and beyond logic. They are just plain stupid. And Torres proved to everyone that he is just a turncoat. The purpose of this blog is not to find and analyze the reasons why he left us, but to understand the way in which he left.

True, you will get frustrated when you don't win anything for three and a half years. You will be the butt of all jokes from your team mates in Spain if you are playing in the Europa League. True, your best years are going down the drain when the previous scumbags(owners) have not kept their promises. True, Rafa Benitez made some shit signings and never gave you any support up front. True, we have off loaded superstars(read Alonso) and bought idiots (read Dossena, Babel etc) .. so on and so forth.

To be honest, Torres was just another of my favorite players. But he became an idol to me when he committed his future to the club in June 2010 in spite of the club finishing seventh in the Premier league the previous season. I adored him from then. For his humility, for his loyalty. And to be brutally honest, when Liverpool were flirting with relegation this season, I thought he should leave the club in the next summer and go somewhere else to win trophies cos i respected him. I wanted him to win, no matter what. Cos he dint win a single medal with Liverpool. Not even a Carling cup, thanks to Rafa.

That being said, I am just falling short of words to understand why he left now, of all times. If only I could ask him these questions.

-- The previous owners have broken their promises. Agreed. Can't you just give the new guys one transfer window to see what they are capable of doing ? Isn't the signing of Suarez almost done when you handed in the transfer request ? Isn't he a big signing.? We gave him 30 mins on his debut and he scored in front of the KOP.

--The Press conference just after you signed for Chelsea. How low can you get ? Not even a mention of the club you've been at for 3 long yrs ? The fans who have sung your song even when you've been shite ? And saying that Chelsea but not Liverpool is a big club ? We showed you nothing but love and cheered you all the way to legendary status. The KOP made you the global superstar that you are now. And you do this ?

-- Alonso was nearly forced out of the club, but he still comes to matches at Anfield showing his love for the club. Benitez(whatever he might be) gives fund for the Hillsborough Tragedy every year till this date. Riise penned an open letter to the fans expressing how he enjoyed his life here. Even Ryan Babel, to whom we dint show even one tenths of the affection shown towards you, tweeted his gratitude. What's fucking wrong with you then ??. What wrong have the supporters done to you ?

As Kenny Dalglish said the other day, "There has never been and never will be a player bigger the club". You will just remain a turncoat. And now, I seriously hope Skrtel rams into you this Sunday and snaps your hamstring for the rest of the reason.

Et tu Torres ? HE WHO BETRAYS WILL ALWAYS WALK ALONE.
